A Million Pieces

Fearlessly autobiographical songs, a scorching live show, and a genuine bond of brotherhood: Morgan Freed (lead vocals/guitar); Peter Vanderloos (guitar/vocals); Ryan Brown (bass) and Stephen Soss (piano and assorted instruments) are A Million Pieces.
While the band might describe what they do as "edgy pop music with attitude," there is an illumination to their music and their lives. "We're not dark and mysterious, were honest," Peter says. "We like to laugh, have fun and be idiots. We're serious 10 percent of the time." The band's name is extracted from a set of lyrics penned by Morgan. "You see I feel like I'm a million pieces/And when you see you're seeing laser beams." That said, these beams are now focused on a band united by power, professionalism and progress. "It's not like I can preach to someone," says Peter. "Our lives have gotten 180 degrees better, and we're growing everyday, but we're not perfect. We're honest."

Austin Hanks

Austin was raised on a diet of Country Blues, Gospel and FM Rock. With those inspirations, Austin's song "Light of the Trail" brought the band national exposure when it became the number one most requested song for five weeks on Birmingham's 100,000 watt Top 40 radio station Kicks 106, an unprecedented feat for an unsigned band.
3:00-3:45
Dark Matter

Dark Matter is a classical/ grunge outfit from Los Angeles. Fronted by Kori Lynn, the lead singer and songwriter of the band. Kori Lynn was born and raised in the heart of Silver Lake. She began playing piano at the age of 5, and at the age of 18 she decided to learn how to record and produce her own songs. She has written and recorded countless numbers of songs and her sound has been compared to Tori Amos, Trent Reznor, Adele and Florence in the Machine. Dark Matter is currently working on their upcoming debut album.
4:00-4:45
One Trick Pony

The members of One Trick Pony came into the TNTWSM sessions fresh off a year of shows together, playing songs from the previous album while working on the new material. The ensuing cohesion has meshed with the band's experimental drive to create an album which promises wider and greater accolades than the last, which itself was deemed one of the ‘Best of 2009' by Web In Front and was described as "airy and infectious, with moody undertones and a complexity that belies the sparse and open landscape [the songs] describe and create," by MungBeing Magazine.
TNTWSM will be released in Summer 2011.
5:00-5:45
Charlie Chan Blues Band
G.S. Wong, aka CHARLIE CHAN, a native Californian, was born in Oakland and raised in an area of Los Angeles known as the Eastside (not to be confused with East L.A). In 1963, Charlie Chan became a finalist in a popular local radio station talent show called the "KGFJ Soul Search." Charlie performed Jimmy Reeds, "You Don't Have To Go" and Buster Brown's, "Fannie Mae" songs that he still enjoys performing today. The '70's were musically dismal for Charlie as a lack of venues and acceptance made it difficult to support a band. He went into semi-retirement as he concentrated on his art and raising his family. In the '80's he founded the Charlie Chan Blues Band and played clubs from Chinatown to the beach cites. Charlie became a finalist three years running in the early days of the Long Beach Blues Festival Talent Showcase. He was also an owner/producer of a recording studio known as Riff Raff Music. The early 1990's found Charlie Chan in Northern California gigging in and around the foothills of the Sierra and across the Valley, to both sides of the Bay. Charlie returned to Los Angeles in the mid-90's joining the jam session scene. He founded The Charlie Chan Blues Workshop in Leimert Park, later on forming "the Charlie Chan MoFo Combo." Charlie is still playing in and around town to this day delivering the blues Charlie Chan Style.

Outliar

The five members of Outliar all grew up within a few miles of each other and came together through a shared desire to make sense of the cultural mish-mash of the Valley through music. As a result, Outliar's sound is eclectic, bringing older themes from Motown, R&B, and Jazz into close contact with more modern rock, latin, and hip-hop styles. This amalgamation of genres (which Outliar has dubbed "The Valley Sound" to reflect the melting pot of the San Fernando Valley) has resulted in a fresh and well-rounded sound that is grounded in time-tested musical traditions. Outliar's members are James Ghaleb (lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter), Brian Zaghi (bassist), Ian Meltzer (drummer), Nick Depsky (pianist), and Eddie Smith (rapper and percussionist). Though officially a five-piece band, they often include small horn sections in their live shows and recordings. Simply put, Outliar is a band dedicated to strong songwriting, real musicianship, genuinely enjoyable performances, and sharing their music with anyone who cares to listen!

Angles
At close inspection, one can see the influences in the music of Angles. Delta Blues and the roots of Rock N' Roll have crept into the sounds that pump from the speakers. But what you are about to witness is not a blues band. Influenced by the success of bands like Radiohead, Angles has twisted the old forms to create a breath of air . . . but the dirt remains.

The Soul of John Black

John "JB" Bigham is a singer, songwriter, performer, producer and innovator — an artist who blends the sounds of the past and the future with the smooth confidence and authority of a card shark shuffling a hot deck. But when it comes to creating visionary music under the moniker of his alter-ego/band The Soul of John Black, there's no gambling involved. Bigham's smart blend of rock, funk, hip-hop, and R&B — all embraced by his love of classic and modern blues — makes him a true twenty-first-century soul man.
